TOKYO, April 24, 2013 — Casio Computer Co., Ltd., announced today the
release of the PRW-3000, a new addition to its PRO TREK series of
outdoor watches. The new PRW-3000 offers quicker and more accurate
measurement of ever-changing outdoor data.
The PRO TREK series of outdoor watches leverages Casio's cutting-edge
sensor technology to measure different types of outdoor data. Flagship
PRO TREK models are equipped with triple sensors that measure compass
bearing, altitude/atmospheric pressure, and temperature. They have
continued to evolve as Casio seeks to develop watches that offer
ultimate utility in the outdoors, such as the solar-powered watch
equipped with a low-voltage operation LSI released in 2002.
The new PRW-3000 watch features an upgraded system for measuring compass
bearing, altitude/atmospheric pressure, and temperature, significantly
improved since the last advance of the system in 2002. Equipped with
"the Triple Sensor Ver. 3" featuring revised sensors, algorithms, and
LSIs, the PRW-3000 attains new heights for data measuring performance in
the PRO TREK series.
The direction sensor in the PRW-3000 consumes only 10% of the energy and
takes up only 5% of the space of the previous sensor. Continuous
measurement of compass bearing has increased from 20 seconds to a
series-leading 60 seconds, greatly enhancing the utility demanded by
professionals for map reading and route finding. LSI calculation power
has increased to significantly reduce altitude measurement times from
five seconds to one second, with accuracy also improving from five-meter
to one-meter increments. These enhancements ensure fine precision for
altitude data readings.
New features include an atmospheric pressure trend alarm that gives
notification in response to sudden swings in atmospheric pressures, to
keep users constantly informed of pressure swings that might otherwise
be overlooked.
*Technical comparisons are based on PRW-2000.
Usability has also been enhanced with a smaller case design made possible by the new "Triple Sensor Ver. 3", while retaining the excellent readability of the large LCD display. A slim watchband made from soft urethane molds easily to the wrist and is easy to fasten, and the compact watch size fits the wrists of men and women alike. Dedicated buttons for compass bearing and altitude/atmospheric pressure are highlighted by icons for intuitive operation. The PRW-3000 can receive standard radio waves from six transmitters around the world, ensuring correct time. The watch also is water-resistant up to 100 meters so users can wear it without worries in various settings.
