TOKYO, January 28, 2013 — Casio Computer Co., Ltd., announced today
the release of a new addition to the G-SHOCK line of shock-resistant
watches. The GA-1000 features designs and functions intended to meet the
requirements of pilots, including a large face and improved readability
at night.
Based on an aviator concept, the GA-1000 offers a face design for
superior readability and instant information recognition even under
challenging conditions. The watch's expansive face boasts a large index
and bold Arabic numerals. The watch also provides multiple types of
information at a glance using a combination of digital and analog
technologies: the analog hands constantly indicate local time while the
digital LCDs provide world time. The Neon Illuminator*
feature uses an LED black light to illuminate the hands and index in
different colors such as blue and green. This ensures that the watch is
highly readable at night.
- *The ultraviolet LED offers safety corresponding to the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standard for Class 1M. However, an optical lens such as a magnifying glass must not be used for direct viewing of the ultraviolet light source.
Casio also utilized its advanced technologies to refine the functionality of these watches to meet the requirements of pilots. The new watch is the first analog-type G-SHOCK to be equipped with twin sensors for measuring compass bearing and temperature. With just a push of the large button in the 9 o'clock position, the second hand turns and points north based on data from the built-in compass sensor.
There is also a bearing memory function that allows the user to display and save intended direction in the watch's memory, as an aid for navigation. The temperature sensor can be used to check the temperature in the cockpit or other locations.
The GA-1000 boasts both the readability and functionality required in the environments where pilots operate.
